About Time Capsule Daily
Time Capsule Daily is an independent publication about the ordinary objects, habits and household technology that shaped daily life between roughly 1950 and 2005 — the rotary phones, cassette decks, mail-order catalogues, kitchen appliances and playground rules that most of us stopped noticing long before they disappeared.
What we cover
We are not a general history site and we do not cover news, politics, medicine or finance. Our subject is the texture of everyday life: what things cost, how they worked, why they were replaced, and what the replacement quietly changed. A typical article takes a single category — say, the home telephone, or the school cafeteria tray — and walks through ten concrete examples, each anchored to a date, a price, a model number or a document.
How we work
Every article is built from primary and reference sources: period catalogues and advertisements, manufacturer documentation, archived newspapers, museum and library collections, and encyclopedic references. Each item in an article carries its own source link so a reader can check the claim rather than take our word for it.
We use AI-assisted drafting tools as part of our production process. Every article is checked against its cited sources before publication, and nothing is published without that check. We say this plainly because we would want to know it as readers.
Corrections
Nostalgia is unusually prone to confident, wrong dates. If you find an error — a year, a price, a model, an attribution — use our contact form and we will correct the article and note the correction at the foot of the page.
Images
Images are sourced from public archives and freely licensed collections. Where a licence requires attribution, the credit and licence appear beneath the image. If you hold rights to an image you believe we have used incorrectly, contact us and we will remove or correct it.
How we are funded
Time Capsule Daily is supported by display advertising. Advertising has no influence over what we cover or what we say. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising affects data collection on this site.
